Led by Jim McCrossin, Head Athletic Trainer for the Philadelphia Flyers, Vincera Rehab is dedicated to providing personalized, quality care in an outpatient setting. Vincera Rehab clinicians offer a variety of treatments for injuries including the upper extremity, lower extremity, neck, back and core. To help guide the best overall physical therapy treatment for you, a thorough initial evaluation is performed to identify history, mechanism of injury, ROM/flexibility/tone restrictions, strength, balance, gait and functional limitations. During the evaluation, your therapist will look at how the body functions as a whole and how the possible breakdown in functional movement patterns can contribute to repetitive stress and injury. The team at Vincera Rehab strives to maintain a facility where each patient gets complete one-on-one care from the same therapist throughout the duration of treatment.
Physical therapy at Vincera includes a combination of manual interventions and exercise programs to address areas of restriction/decreased range of motion, decreased strength and endurance to address the limitations of the individual and to facilitate an overall improvement in function. The clinicians at Vincera Rehab are passionate about providing the best overall physical therapy treatment specific to the individual to ensure beneficial outcomes. Patient programs are progressed based on the overall goals of the patient, whether is it restoring pain free daily function or returning to high level athletic activity. In addition, our clinicians also work closely with Vincera’s Licensed Massage Therapists who offer additional treatments to enhance the patient’s care.
Physical Therapy Services Include:
Sports Injuries – Injuries including ligament sprains, cartilage tears or repairs, muscle strains, tendonitis, fractures, and arthroscopic surgery. Sports-specific rehabilitation programs are designed to improve flexibility, joint stability, endurance and conditioning to return to sporting activities.
Rehab for Core Muscle Injuries (sports hernia) – Pre and post-surgical treatment. Train and rehab the muscles used for core stability. Train the core and the rest of the muscles in the area including the hamstrings, gluteals, abdominal and back muscles all work more efficiently and together.
Rehab for Hips, Knees and Ankles – Post-surgical exercises emphasize stretching and strengthening of the hip or knee after replacement, reconstruction or cartilage removal.
Vestibular Rehab – These are therapeutic activities for those with balance disorders, including concussions, and are designed to help improve balance, reduce likelihood of falls and decrease dizziness.
Back and Neck – Physical therapy is designed to relieve pain and improve muscular flexibility and strength. The therapist uses specific treatments and techniques based on the patient’s preferences and response to treatment. These techniques include McKenzie, dynamic lumbar stabilization, postural awareness and mobilization.
Manual Therapy – This is a treatment performed by a licensed therapist to decrease pain, improve mobility of joints and soft tissue. The therapist will use soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, and joint manipulation to achieve your goals.
Musculoskeletal and Orthopedic – Injuries including neck or low back pain due to bulging discs, shoulder or knee pain, plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, joint replacement and other post-surgical rehabilitation. We work with individuals who have undergone various hip and knee surgeries, sustained trauma to a bone, or have a bone or soft tissue disease. We focus on helping patients regain their strength, mobility and endurance so they can resume their regular routines.
Post-Operative Rehabilitation – Vincera’s rehabilitation protocols are based on the procedure that will be performed, the level of activity, sport played, and the availability to the patient. Rehabilitation from surgery is generally three weeks to eight weeks, but can last longer depending upon the severity of the injury and surgery performed. Your specific rehab protocol will be discussed prior to the surgical procedure.
Meet the Team
Jim McCrossin, ATC, CSCS, CES, PES
Jim McCrossin is the Athletic Trainer/Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Philadelphia Flyers, where his is currently in his 15th year. He has worked for the Phantoms and served as the assistant Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Hartford Whalers during the 1995-96 season. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from West Chester University, holds two Masters of Science degrees in Sports Medicine and Exercise Physiology, and currently pursuing his doctorate degree. Jim is a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS) and is certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) and Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES). He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American College of Sports Medicine. Jim also serves on the Mid-Atlantic States Advisory Board for Strength and Conditioning.
Nicole Cannon, DPT
Nicole Cannon graduated Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology from The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and has her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from The Richard Stockton College as well. Nicole has taken various continuing education courses focused on myofascial release interventions and correction of muscle imbalances in regard to musculoskeletal injuries of the upper extremity, lower extremity and core/spine. Other courses have focused on a running population and PT based Pilates rehabilitation. Nicole’s previous work experience includes working in a gym setting with treatment of various musculoskeletal injuries related to the upper and lower extremity, core/spine along with repetitive/overuse injuries often related to exercise/running/postural abnormality. Nicole played field hockey, basketball and softball in high school, basketball in college and has participated in various half marathon and marathon races during and after college. Nicole has a significant interest in overall health, well-being and fitness.
Cara Marzano, DPT
Cara graduated from Thomas Jefferson University with a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy in 2004. She completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Temple University in 2009. Her prior experience has been working in outpatient and acute care therapy, with a focus in shoulder rehab, post joint replacement and sports rehab. She spent several years observing shoulder surgeries, treating these patients and working closely with the shoulder specialists. Cara is also trained in Vestibular Rehab, working with patients who have balance deficits and patients who are post-concussion. Cara has taken several continuing education courses on evidence based shoulder and elbow treatments, sports injuries and vestibular rehab. Cara has been an athlete throughout her schooling and still enjoys staying active, playing in intramural leagues and watching sports.
Dean Millard, DPT
Dean graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from West Chester University. He went on to Arcadia University, where he earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Prior to joining Vincera, he worked in an outpatient orthopedic clinic, where he treated a variety of conditions, including both operative and non-operative management of sports related and/or degenerative conditions. Dean has attended multiple continuing education courses, including several Sports Medicine Conferences, evaluation and treatment of the shoulder, hip, and running/overuse injuries. Dean was a member of the football team at West Chester, and has a strong passion for the sport today. He enjoys spending his recreational time with family, golfing, playing with his dogs, and being outdoors.
Alex Skacel, DPT, MS, CSCS, SCCC
Alex graduated summa cum laude with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. He also holds a Masters degree in Integrative Exercise Physiology from Temple University and a Bachelors degree from the University of Delaware, where he was also a member of the Division I Swimming Team. Alex’s previous experience includes working as a strength and conditioning coach at a Division I university, as well as training many athletes in sports performance privately. Alex holds certifications from the NSCA as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS), the CSCCA as Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC), the NASM as a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES), and FMS as Selective Functional Movement Assessment Certified (SFMA). Outside of work, Alex enjoys spending his time with his family, cooking, and being outdoors with his two dogs.
Sean Coleman, PT, DPT
Sean is a native Philadelphian and attended Roman Catholic High School in center city. He graduated from the University of Scranton with his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2015, and also received his Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from The University of Scranton in 2011. During his time as an undergraduate student at Scranton, Sean was a member of The University’s men’s lacrosse team. He helped lead the team to a conference championship and NCAA tournament appearance his senior year. After graduation in 2011, Sean worked as a personal trainer holding a certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). During this time, he specialized in 1 on 1 training of high school and collegiate athletes as well as recreational athletes to enhance performance. He also served as the University of Scranton’s Strength and Conditioning Coach for all men’s and women’s sports teams from 2011-2015. While in graduate school, Sean contributed to several research studies including a systematic review which was accepted at the Combined Sections Meeting (CSM) in 2015. His previous work experience includes working as a physical therapist in an inpatient hospital setting and in an outpatient patient clinic treating patients with a variety of orthopedic pathologies. Outside of work, Sean enjoys staying active by continuing to play lacrosse as well as basketball, softball, and golf.
