Eric Kropf, MD, FAAOS Appointed Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine

Eric J. Kropf, MD, FAAOS, has been appointed Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, effective January 1, 2016.

Dr. Kropf joined Temple's faculty in 2009, serving as the Director of Resident Education and Research and most recently as the Director of Sports Medicine since 2014. He is currently a team physician for Temple University Athletics and St. Joseph's Preparatory School, as well as an orthopaedic consultant for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, Dr. Kropf's clinical practice focuses on sports related injuries with broad experience in reconstructive techniques of the hip, knee, shoulder and elbow.

Dr. Kropf completed his undergraduate education at Villanova University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. He earned his medical degree from Georgetown University where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha. His medical education also includes an Orthopaedic Residency and Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

"He has demonstrated strong mentorship and administrative skills and, under his direction in sports medicine, the department has seen significant expansion in size and scope of practice over the past two years. I am confident Eric's superb talents and experience will contribute considerably to lead the Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine Department."

Dr. Kropf is a Pennsylvania Delegate for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Arthroscopy/ Sports Medicine program committee. He is an active member of the International Society for Hip Arthroscopy, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, International Cartilage Repair Society, International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, and Orthopaedic Research Society.
